Annual or perennial herbs, pubescent, trichomes appressed, unicellular, medifixed. Stems erect, procumbent or ascending, branched. Leaves cauline, simple, entire. Corymbose raceme, several flowered, usually ebracteate. Fruiting pedicels ascending or spreading in fruit, slender. Sepals 4, oblong or ovate. Petals 4, obovate, spatulate or orbicular, claw differentiated from limb, limb margin entire, apex often rounded. Stamens 6, slightly tetradynamous, filaments dilated basally; anthers ovate; nectar glands 8; lateral nectar glands (4) in pairs but short stalk-like; middle 4 rudimentary. Ovary 2-10-ovuled, style short and thick, stigma capitate. Siliculae ovate or suborbicular with persistent style, compressed, bilocular, dehiscent with valves, valves flat and with a distinct midvein; septum obscurely veined. Seeds suborbicular with a narrow wing (margin).

Perennial herb, up to 40 cm tall, stem erect or suberect or ascending, branched mostly from below; plant (stem, leaves, inflorescence axis, pedicels, calyx and ovary) pubescent, trichomes appressed, unicellular, medifixed. Leaves alternate, sessile, linear, lanceolate or oblanceolate, 20-40 mm long and 3-5 mm wide, entire, usually acute. Corymbose raceme with many flowers (up to 70) lax and up to 20 cm long. Flowers 5-6 mm across, white, pinkish or purplish, usually ebracteate; pedicels 5-10 mm long, pubescent, filiform, spreading. Sepals 4, ca. 2.5 mm x 2 mm, oblong or obovate, apex rounded, pubescent. Petals 4, cruciform, white, pinkish or purplish; limb ca. 2.5 mm x 2.5 mm, oblong or semicircular, apex +/- rounded or obscurely 3-lobed, entire; claw distinct, ca. 1 mm long. Stamens 6, all nearly equal or slightly tetradynamous, filaments ca. 2 mm long, dilated at base; anthers ca. 0.3 mm long, apex obtuse; glands as in the genus Lobularia: nectar glands 8; lateral nectar glands (4) in pairs but short stalk-like; middle 4 rudimentary. Ovary ca. 1 mm long, 2-locular with 1 ovule per loculus, sparsely hairy, style ca. 0.5 mm long; stigma capitate. Siliculae ovate-oblong or obovate, 2.5- 3.5 mm x 2-2.5 mm with persistent 1 mm long style; valves slightly convex, appressedly pubescent to almost glabrous, with a distinct midvein. Seeds 1 in each locule, 1-1.5 mm in diameter, suborbicular-compressed with an obscure narrow wing, reddish brown.
